The Why and Wherefore of the Amazing Verve Coffee Roasters

Verve Coffee Roasters

If you’re ever looking for Santa Cruz Coffee shops, we’ve got a great suggestion for you: Verve Coffee Roasters. They have locations elsewhere, but there’s always something special about experiencing a café or restaurant in its original location. Verve Santa Cruz is one of those awesome experiences.

Who are Verve Coffee Roasters?

Verve Coffee Roasters are a fairly new coffee business compared to some more established companies like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts. They’re currently based out of Santa Cruz, California, where they began, back in 2007. At that time, Colby Barr and Ryan O’Donovan had a vision for creating their own coffee shop simply because they love coffee and the coffee shop culture.

Verve currently has ten locations in the United States and Japan.

  • 1 in San Francisco
  • 4 in Santa Cruz
  • 2 in Los Angeles
  • 1 in Hollywood
  • 2 in Japan

Verve Coffee Roasters has been ranked in the top ten coffee shops by Food Republic, Thrillist, and Complex Magazine, and received the highest score in the coffee category at the 2013 Good Food Awards.

Each member of the top tier at Verve has vast knowledge and interest in the coffee industry as a whole, as well as previously holding a variety of highly valuable roles, such as coffee buyers, farming, creation of roasting profiles, and business management.

As you can see from the menu options, a number of the items available are health-conscious, but still delicious. Several of the items are gluten-free, which is unusual at a coffee shop of this nature, so if you’re a GFer, rejoice and run to your nearest Verve Coffee Roasters shop.

Some of the Verve shops offer juice choices, as well as other various healthy, Vegan choices.

You may also want to note that Verve Coffee Roasters shops are some of the few locations where you can get a freshly made nitro cold brew coffee. This type of coffee brew is becoming more popular, but Verve was one of the first to make it available, and has proven to make some of the best.

Of course, we also don’t hate the fact that Verve Coffee has some of the most reasonable coffee and food prices for a café of its type.

What Does Verve Coffee Stand For?

Of course, Verve is all about the most amazing cup of coffee you can get. That’s why they became roasters only one year after Colby Barr took over his first coffee shop in 2005. They were all about excellence then, and still are now.

And Verve is heartily invested in sustainable coffee growing, harvesting, and roasting. Their Farmlevel Initiative focuses on taking care of every aspect of the coffee business that they run. Farmers, harvesters, roasters, and other receive higher wages and rates than the Fair Trade requirement, every time. This is one of the most important aspects of Verve’s existence.

Each member of the top tier at Verve is equally dedicated to this vision for fair trade, boosting the farmers, and everyone else involved in their business. Even the former Chief Executive of Operations, Chris Jordan, was heavily involved in this initiative, and actually lived abroad in Kenya for 13 years with his wife working in the coffee industry.
